Qiana obtained her BS in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), her MPH in Health Services Research (Epidemiology and Health Administration) from Loma Linda University, and her PhD in Health Administration from Capella University. She has experience in healthcare research including literature search design, study design, data analysis, meta-analyses, interpretation of results, summarizing and synthesizing data, and presentation of results. Currently she works at Optum where she is the Director of Rare Disease and Hematology. She is responsible for supporting business development activities (e.g., developing proposals, face-to-face client engagement), overseeing execution of retrospective studies (e.g., database, survey, chart abstraction, and primary data collection studies), managing senior researchers, advancing dissemination of results (e.g., manuscripts, reports, conference abstracts), managing client relationships, and overseeing study budgets and timelines.

Previously, she worked at Kaiser Permanente where for 14 years she conducted research and an evidence-based medicine approach to critically evaluate and appraise the most current scientific research literature to create national evidence-based guidelines related to cardiovascular health. More specifically, she utilized her skills in epidemiology to interpret statistical results from science and incorporate that with clinical knowledge to form evidence-based recommendations which were used at the point of care. Most recently, she was involved in critically appraising and assessing the efficacy of Covid-19 treatment trials. Her other roles in the private healthcare sector include working as Sr. Researcher for a pharmaceutical consulting company (Cerner) and Sr. Project Manager for PacifiCare Health Systems (now UnitedHealthcare) evaluating literature and creating their medical treatment guidelines. Other roles include working for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, HIV Epidemiology department serving as a research manager and researcher on several CDC funded HIV studies. She has numerous publications and has presented at several conferences. She currently is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated where she was appointed to serve as the National Chair of the National Health Task Force from 2020-2024 and currently serves as the Regional Program Chair. She is also the past President of the Inland Empire Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
