Kettering Health DEI Symposium: Bridging the Gap—Addressing Cardiac Disparities for Better Patient Outcomes
On October 11, 2024, Kettering Health hosted the symposium titled Bridging the Gap—Addressing Cardiac Disparities for Better Patient Outcomes, with 180 attendees from various medical specialties. Led by Dr. Columbus Batiste and Danette Batiste of Healthy Heart Nation, the 3-hour session explored racial, gender, and geographical health disparities, presenting a novel hypothesis on the role of stress and its impact on the endothelium. The discussion highlighted plant-based nutrition as both a powerful tool for stress resilience and a strategy to mitigate health disparities. The importance of effective communication in bridging these gaps and improving patient care was also emphasized, leaving participants with practical strategies for their practices.
