Aaliyah Ruddock is a Biological Sciences student at Oakwood University with the ambition of becoming a Dentist. Aaliyah is a highly motivated and results-oriented individual known for her cheerful disposition. She is an active member of her university’s Dental Club and works as a lab assistant under her department head. Aaliyah also dedicates her weekends & summers to tutoring math and science students from middle school to high school. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Aaliyah is a community leader who from a young age has known the importance of her voice. She stood as the Youth Board Member for the Municipality of Clarington’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee as well as a member of the Anti-Black Racism Task Force. Aaliyah’s strong determination and willingness to serve in her community is the driving force behind her pursuits in the fields of Health and Science.

Ms. Blayton is an experienced professional registered nurse with thirty-plus years of nursing.

"My volunteer services with children and youth began over thirty years ago. Initially, it was because I wanted to be involved in the activities my children were in. However, over the years I became a strong advocate for students at our church and in the surrounding community; Promoting, organizing, and fundraising for STEAM activities. Successfully organized a large shoe drive in collaboration with FUNDS 2 Org- a community-based organization that helps Micro Enterprises in underserved regions of the world."

Adwoa Osei is the Program Director for UCR PRIME Leadership Education to Advance Diversity- African, Black, Caribbean, Co-director for the Health Equity, Social Justice, Anti-Racism (HESJAR) curriculum, Clerkship Director for Pediatrics, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the University of California School of Medicine.

Alex Panahi is a neuroscience major at the University of California, Riverside, entering his junior year. As a member of the UCR Honors Program, Alex is dedicated to academic excellence and is pursuing a future in medicine, with specific interests in cardiology and sports medicine. He has also been an active member of the Latino Medical Student Association for the past two years, further supporting his academic and professional growth.

Since February 2023, he has been working as a medical assistant at ActiveKidMD under Dr. Chris Koutures, gaining valuable clinical experience. His commitment to the medical field was solidified when he received the Life Saving Award from the City of Corona for performing CPR on a cardiac arrest victim during a high-pressure emergency.

Outside of academics and clinical work, Alex enjoys playing basketball and volleyball and volunteers his time as an assistant coach for youth basketball.

As a passionate Physical Therapist Assistant based in downtown Los Angeles, I have the privilege of helping individuals, particularly the older population, regain mobility and live their best lives. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly Pomona and pursued my PTA licensure at Loma Linda University, solidifying my commitment to improving health and wellness in my community.

When I’m not at work, I cherish time with my family and indulge in my love for food, exploring the diverse culinary landscape of Los Angeles. I’m proud to join Healthy Heart Nation as an ambassador, combining my professional expertise and personal passion to inspire healthier living for all.

Dr. Lespinasse is a Board Certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC) and a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM).

Dr. Lespinasse attended Oakwood University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science. She then pursued a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Marquette University. Next, she went on to obtain a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree with dual concentrations in Women’s Health and Midwifery from the University of Illinois Chicago, where she was the recipient of several grants and piloted an evidence-based quality improvement project aimed at improving perinatal depression screening.

Driven by the severe maternal morbidity and mortality rates plaguing the Black community, Dr. Lespinasse is dedicated to being part of the solution. She practices under the belief that women of color not only deserve to be heard, but also uplifted and supported through every phase of life. It is for that reason that Dr. Lespinasse is passionate about providing each of her patients with holistic, culturally competent, equitable, and inclusive care. She strongly believes in the importance of blending current evidenced-based practice guidelines with the unique needs and concerns of each woman to improve care delivery and maternal health outcomes. While it is important to recognize the staggering rates of mortality affecting the community, it is also important to rebuild confidence in the birthing ability of black and brown people. Dr. Lespinasse hopes to empower her patients through education and advocacy while remaining a safe space for people of color to receive quality healthcare.

Alicia Broomfield Myrie attends Oakwood University as a second year Biology pre-dentistry major. She enjoys staying active, and engaging in physical activity daily while also being a member of her university's majorette team, the Precise Pridettes. She is a frequent volunteer, dedicated to serving her community.

She is a strong advocate for the relationship between a healthcare worker and the person they are caring for. She believes that providing a welcoming space makes patients more inclined to ask questions and note down advice the doctor gives them, increasing knowledge and improving health. She is passionate and excited to work towards being able to use the gifts God has given her to help others.

Amy Aboki is a sophomore majoring in biology, aspiring to become a dentist. Amy is passionate about helping others achieve not only healthy, confident smiles but also overall wellness. With the increasing prevalence of health issues today, she has made it her mission to raise awareness about the importance of holistic health care.

Amy believes that overall health plays a crucial role in an individual’s quality of life. Physical, mental, and emotional well-being are interconnected, and maintaining balance in these areas is essential for living a healthy and fulfilling life. She is dedicated to promoting awareness and educating others on the importance of healthy habits, as small lifestyle changes can lead to significant long-term benefits. By encouraging preventive care and holistic wellness, she hopes to help individuals achieve improved health and well-being.

Ana Gonzalez is a second-year Pre-Med student at the University of California, Riverside, pursuing a degree in Neuroscience. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, she is deeply passionate about the medical field and community service. In addition to her academic pursuits, she serves as an intern for the Associated Students Program Board at UCR, where she has developed her skills in event planning, teamwork, and networking. Her dedication to healthcare has led her to participate in health symposiums, playing a key role in raising awareness about cardiovascular disease and diabetes among underserved and high-risk communities. This experience strengthened her commitment to advocating for minority health, ultimately inspiring her to join the Pressure Project to promote cardiovascular wellness and serve others.

Dr. Anissa LaCount is a board-certified Family Medicine Physician. She provides care for patients in Southern California and at a variety of health care groups including Loma Linda Medical Center, SACH Norton Clinic, and Indian Health Services.

Ashley is an experienced nurse with eight years of hands-on practice in the healthcare field. Holding a Master's in Nursing with a focus on Women's Health, she is deeply passionate about advocating for underserved populations and enhancing access to quality care. Ashley is dedicated to empowering individuals through education on preventive health screenings, aiming to improve long-term health outcomes in communities that are often overlooked. Her extensive clinical experience, combined with her commitment to education and advocacy, allows her to make a meaningful impact in promoting wellness and prevention.

Atonte Myers is a marriage and family therapist and mental health director at Oakwood University. She received her Masters degree from Capella University, and her undergraduate degree in communications from Oakwood University. She is passionate about helping individuals , family and couples get the help they need. She enjoys helping couples reconnect after resentment and bitterness have dimmed the fire of love. She works with families to create new healthy patterns, and new ways to communicate. Atonte enjoys Inspiring individuals to reframe their negative beliefs about themselves and helps them to see themselves through a new positive lens. She loves to see the light go on with her clients, and assist them to create new patterns that brings them into a more peaceful space. Atonte also cohost Mental Health Mondays live on YouTube. This program brings mental health education to thousands around the world.

Bailey Smith is a dedicated senior and has been a member of the Health & Medical Academy throughout her 4 years in high school. With a passion for healthcare, Bailey is focused on pursuing a career as a nurse with the ultimate goal of becoming a dermatology nurse and providing patient care. She gained her interest in healthcare by helping others, which grew stronger through participating in various community service projects.

Along with her aspiration to become a nurse, Bailey has other interests, such as dancing and spending time with her friends and family. Upon graduating high school, Bailey plans to join a nursing program in college that will ultimately guide her to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is aiming to specialize as a dermatology nurse, where she will make a difference in patient care while focusing on skin health and improving people's lives.

In my journey as an Executive-level Physician Liaison for clinical transformation, I've overseen workflow processes, ensuring clinician usability and contributing to meaningful outcomes. One notable achievement includes strategically leading planning in government and commercial business development, resulting in a 10% increase in revenue and a 15% improvement in government contract win rates.

My expertise spans a range of areas, from medical informatics and workflow analysis to crisis management and Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt practices. I specialize in driving EHR implementation, clinical transformation, and performance improvement, always with a focus on sustainable and measurable results.

Brian Hardy, Jr. is a proud member of the high school graduating class of 2025. Upon graduation, Brian plans to attend nursing school to combine his love of science with his passion for caring for those in need. During high school, Brian participated in a Biomedical Sciences program, earning his BLS certification.

An active member of Healthy Heart Nation, Brian has dedicated several hundred volunteer hours to the organization. He enjoys soccer, swimming, video games, and spending time with friends and family. Brian is committed to serving his local community and is always eager to volunteer his time and talents to support nonprofit initiatives and community projects.

Looking ahead, Brian aims to specialize in pediatric nursing, where he can make a significant impact on the lives of children and their families. He also hopes to continue his involvement with community service, inspiring others to give back and support those in need.

Bryant Roseberry is a Morehouse College attendee majoring in Biology.

He is currently pursuing a career in the medical field. Upon studying Biology, Mr. Roseberry is working towards becoming a Nurse Anesthetist. He plans to attend different medical programs to further his education to achieve his dream job. Mr. Roseberry currently works as a Legal Assistant at Roseberry Law Firm.

Chef Babette is a world-class healthy chef, fitness enthusiast, and motivational speaker. She runs a successful restaurant, Stuff I Eat, and has a loyal fan base via social media outlets while participating in health summit events around the country.

Now at age 70, she is a force of nature who seems to be able to do it all.

Some of Chef Babette television appearances include, The Doctors, Inside Edition, The Chew, The Steve Harvey Show, the HBO hit comedy series Insecure, Channel 7’ Eye On L.A., Home & Family and The Know It All Guide To… Nuts. She is also Co-Host of the streaming show, Sunday Bites & Tidbits, which shares information about being plant-based and living a healthy lifestyle.

Chef Babette’s childhood journey has been filled with several health challenges, but after reading the best seller “Fit for Life” by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond at the age of 40, the native of Los Angeles made a conscious decision to eat for the sake of nutrition.

Since then, her passion lies in inspiring and exposing information to individuals who may not otherwise be acquainted with healthier lifestyles due to environmental and economic barriers or the simple lack of knowledge.

Becoming a a fitness enthusiast, and a self taught chemist in the kitchen, perfecting healthy food that taste out of this world allowed her to eat and enjoy the meals she loved without the guilt or associated “diseases” or ailments.

Cheryl Marshall is a Master Certified Health Coach that is committed to providing evidence-based and science-supported information to help others understand the benefits of making lifestyle, exercise, stress management, and nutrition their core essential health & wellness goals. She is also a licensed food-for-life instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, teaching nutrition and cooking classes throughout her community. Raising awareness about heart-related risk factors is personal for Cheryl due to the loss of both parents to cardiovascular disease.

Cheryl partners with Women of Color looking to prevent and overcome heart related risk factors. She is also the founder of VegUcan Health & Wellness LLC, an organization dedicated to promoting healthy habits and fostering long-lasting lifestyle changes.

Christina Sanford is an acclaimed keynote speaker, master trainer, and licensed psychotherapist specializing in treating women recovering from trauma, codependency, and other life-altering conditions.

Global, LLC, a holistically focused women’s leadership development firm, Christina leverages over 22 years of experience in nonprofit and behavioral healthcare leadership to deliver compelling, interactive keynotes and immersive learning experiences that transform women’s lives, work, and relationships.

Columbus Batiste, III is a dedicated first-year student at La Sierra University in Riverside, CA. Inspired by the impactful work of his father, Columbus Batiste, II, he has witnessed firsthand the passion and commitment required in the medical field. From a young age, Columbus has been determined to become a doctor, a goal he set for himself upon graduating kindergarten and has steadfastly pursued ever since.

Columbus is also deeply committed to community service. He has volunteered extensively with local churches, supporting vacation Bible schools and children's camps. Additionally, he has contributed numerous hours to the Healthy Heart Nation's Pressure Project, aiding barbershops and churches in the Riverside area.

I am Courtney Browne, a third-year medical student at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Growing up on the island of Grenada, W.I., I observed healthcare disparities and the positive impact of addressing community healthcare needs through local health fairs and promoting health literacy. Currently, I am interested in pursuing a career in Internal Medicine with a focus on Lifestyle Medicine. My goal is to provide my patients with a holistic approach to healthcare, empowering them to take charge of their well-being and emphasizing the significance of screenings in enhancing and extending their quality of life.

Danielle Wortham is a physical therapist currently practicing in a privately owned orthopedic clinic. She has worked in a variety of physical therapy/healthcare settings across Southern California.

David Conkerite II serves as the Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion for OU Health. In this role he partners across the healthcare campus to plan, develop, and implement strategic initiatives in collaboration with leaders, employees, and teams to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion - awareness, enhance education, and promote advocacy.

Prior to OU Health, David served at Loma Linda University Health for over nine years in various roles, leading teams and projects related to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Talent & Leadership Development, and Human Resource Management. Most recently he served as the Director of Talent Development Programs.

David is a graduate of Oakwood University, a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration, and the University of Redlands with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Additionally, he is certified by the HR Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and is a member of the America College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the American Society for Health Care Human Resource Administration (ASHHRA), and the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).

David also serves on the board of Simlpi Service Inc., a non-profit that sponsors and organizes community initiatives to help eliminate homelessness and poverty in underserved communities. David describes himself as a lifelong learner, frequent traveler, and adventure seeker. He loves to explore diverse cultures, strives to visit at least one new country each year, and has visited 40 States to date. Outside of work, you’ll find David hiking, jogging, reading, enjoying vegan cuisine, and volunteering in the community.

Deitra Dennis is a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach with the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching; Certified Food for Life Instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine; Ambassador of African Heritage and Health with Oldways Food Traditions; and Licensed Lifestyle Health Coach with INTERVENT.

Currently, she is in the process of becoming a Certified Professional Plant-based Chef at Rouxbe Online Culinary School.

Deitra has spent close to three decades as a registered nurse with a diverse career ranging from hospital bedside care, home health, doctor’s office, nursing home, utilization management, quality leadership, as well as disease management where she was recognized for her outstanding coaching skills in guiding patients to make healthy behavior changes.

Deitra is on a mission to improve the heart health of African American women through plant-powered cooking classes and nutrition health coaching with a focus on traditional S.O.U.L. food. She also partners with physicians to improve the heart health of their African American Women patients by offering an evidence-based healthy lifestyle coaching program.

Donna Green-Goodman, MPH is a career Public Health Educator. She graduated from Oakwood University majoring in home economics/nutrition.

She earned her master’s in public health from Loma Linda University. She has had a rewarding career of providing leadership in developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating public health, interventions, programs, services, and staff at national/state levels, as well as within the college/university setting. She’s taught for 8 years at her own alma mater (Oakwood University) with a specific emphasis on nutrition, healthy cooking, and healthy lifestyle education. Mrs. Goodman successfully negotiated and acquired contracts with state, public, and private organizations.

Mrs. Goodman served as a National Ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Circle of Promise Campaign. As a food life instructor and 25-year breast cancer survivor, Donna discovered the value of the power of plant foods as part of a healthy lifestyle by preventing and reversing disease. Donna and her husband Eddie, a physical therapist, own Lifestyle Therapeutix, a Lifestyle For Better Health Center in Huntsville where she provides wellness counseling/coaching and plant-powered cooking classes.

Dr. Eric Walsh is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine, Loma Linda University School of Public Health where he received his Masters and Doctorate in Public Health. Dr. Walsh has served (2) United States Presidents as an advisor on HIV/AIDS. Dr. Walsh is a practicing physician and serves as Medical Director for Urgent Care services.

Erin Hough is a second year biology pre-medicine major at Oakwood University. Coming from a family of doctors, she was introduced to the medical field at a young age & has been actively pursing a career in cardiovascular surgery since the age of 10. With a passion for healthcare, Erin strives to be able to give back to her community whenever and wherever needed, believing everything should be done with a smile and a kind heart.

Her passion for healthcare has led her to be apart of various medical programs and initiatives throughout her education, leading her to strive for a career in cardiovascular health. Joining the Pressure Project allows her to work with others to bring awareness to healthy heart initiatives.

As an undergraduate student at UC Riverside, originally from Escondido, California, I’ve gained invaluable firsthand insight into healthcare challenges and disparities through my work at hospitals and free clinics. These experiences have deepened my conviction that awareness and education are essential, especially within the Black community. I believe such efforts are vital for improving health outcomes and empowering individuals.

Fiona M. Lindo, MD, MPH, is a practicing urogynecologist and health coach based in Houston, Texas. Triple-boarded in OBGYN, Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, and Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Lindo has served for almost a decade as the Medical Director of Urogynecology and, Director for the Center of Restorative Pelvic Medicine at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. She is on faculty as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A & M University, School of Medicine, Houston Campus. She also serves as the Associate Fellowship Program Director and International Women’s Health Director of Urogynecology & Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. Dr. Lindo is dedicated to serving women globally and has worked in many countries. She has developed the International Women’s Health program for the Urogynecology fellowship training program and has worked in many countries including Haiti, Jamaica, India, Liberia, Ghana, and Japan, and currently goes to Malawi yearly to teach and take care of women. As a certified surgical coach through the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Lindo has developed a structured program on surgical coaching and mentorship for trainees in urogynecology. She is a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN and the American College of Surgeons. She completed her fellowship in Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Medicine at Scott & White Healthcare, Texas A&M University, College of Medicine. Her current research interests include Surgical Education and Coaching, Lifestyle medicine & Pelvic floor disorders, and Pelvic floor disorders in global health. She has been active in the International Urogynecology Association since 2011 and currently serves as the Chair of the Fellowship Development Committee. She recently received the 2023 AMWA Inspire Award, which celebrates accomplished women in medicine who exemplify the highest values in vision, integrity, service, and collaboration in medicine and healthcare.  Dr. Lindo embraces a faith-based holistic wellness approach incorporating mindfulness, mental wellbeing, movement, and whole food plant-based nutrition. She is passionate about working with community organizations to promote a healthy lifestyle. With her specialized focus on women's pelvic health and wellness, she aims to understand the unique needs of individuals and provide compassionate care and coaching.

Funanya Ikechukwu, is a Biochemistry graduate from UCR. Funanya plans to become a medical doctor who serves her community in the Inland Empire, in which she was born and raised. Her background has inspired her to become a volunteer at HHN which focuses on equitable access to health information in communities that are profoundly impacted by the effects of high blood pressure.

Funanya currently volunteers for HHN at their Blood Pressure screening events, where she takes attendees’ blood pressure readings and provides helpful information on how to manage their blood pressure. Funanya also assists with administrative and research tasks at HHN.

Gigi Carter is a licensed nutritionist 2ith a passion for all things wellness, Gigi Carter finds her purpose in helping people come up higher in their pursuit of excellence in health and lifestyle.

With a passion for all things wellness, Gigi Carter finds her purpose in helping people come up higher in their pursuit of excellence in health and lifestyle. Her enthusiasm and expertise are evident as one of the masterminds behind the creation of Daniel Fast: A Bridge to Healthy Living. She is the Founder of My True Self, the socially conscious nutrition and wellness practice—where she serves clients as a consultant, nutritionist, and personal trainer. She achieved all of this after 22 years in corporate management roles! She made the switch in 2016 to pursue her Master’s in nutrition sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and graduated with honors. Gigi is a licensed Nutritionist in the state of Washington, and certified personal trainer and senior fitness specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. She has a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell University. Oh yes, Gigi is also the author of The Plant-Based Workplace, where she’s been interviewed or mentioned in Forbes, The New York Times Opinion, Vegconomist, GreenBiz, and the University of Alabama School of Health Professions. Gigi is also co-author of the children’s book The Spinach in My Teeth and co-author of A Prayer for Your Health Journal. Greyson is a recent graduate of Biola University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Throughout his academic journey, Greyson balanced a rigorous course load while gaining invaluable hands-on experience working as an EMT in San Bernardino County. In this role, he provided compassionate, lifesaving care to a diverse patient population, developing his ability to stay calm under pressure and think critically in high-stakes situations.

Greyson’s commitment to excellence and patient advocacy has led him to pursue a career in critical care nursing. He is currently applying his clinical skills at Loma Linda University’s Trauma/Surgical ICU, where he is part of a multidisciplinary team that treats complex cases, including post-operative, neuro, trauma, and transplant patients. Driven by a passion for learning, Greyson aspires to further his education by becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, where he can continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of his patients while advancing in the field of nursing.

Dr. Helen is a board-certified physician, author, and speaker dedicated to promoting health through lifestyle changes. A graduate of Oakwood University, she earned her Master’s in Anatomy and attended medical school at Howard University. The loss of her mother to complications of type 2 diabetes and her father’s battle with metastatic cancer profoundly shaped her career, inspiring her to explore the transformative power of nutrition and wellness. Dr. Helen completed dual residencies in Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital Program in 5 years. She pursued a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Non Surgical Orthopedics, followed by additional training in Interventional Pain. While working in orthopedics, she observed that patients who made healthier lifestyle changes required fewer interventional pain procedures. This realization inspired her to establish her own practice, Pain 2 Wellness Healthcare, where she incorporated lifestyle modifications for pain management and supported patients in reversing type 2 diabetes. At Pain 2 Wellness Healthcare, Dr. Helen built a devoted following of patients who successfully reversed type 2 diabetes through her lifestyle approach seamlessly weaving in both traditional and alternative therapies for the success of her patients. She authored Reverse It! and its companion Success Journal, developed an intensive coaching program, and hosted both a network and YouTube cooking series featuring diabetes-reversing recipes. She also founded the non-profit Reverse It Now to make these resources widely accessible. Guided by personal experiences and professional expertise, Dr. Helen empowers individuals to reclaim their health through informed, sustainable lifestyle changes.

Hilda is a Public Policy student at the University of California, Riverside with the goal of becoming a cardiologist. She is a driven and community-centered leader who is passionate about creating equitable change through both medicine and policy. As a proud Latina, Hilda understands the importance of representation in healthcare and is committed to addressing disparities that impact underserved communities.

By combining her creativity with her dedication to service, she actively seeks innovative solutions to complex public health challenges. She has volunteered regularly at local food distributions, supporting families facing food insecurity. In addition, she currently tutors high school students in career readiness education, equipping them with practical skills and confidence to thrive in the real world.

With a strong belief that education and advocacy are powerful tools for change, Hilda is excited to grow with Healthy Heart Nation and expower the next generation of healthcare professionals.

James Curtis is a Business Finance major and Pre-Med student at UCR. In spring 2024 he graduated with distinguished honors from Riverside City College, attaining a degree in Business Administration. After taking biology in college, he became fascinated with science and the human body. To fulfill his life’s purpose of helping people, James decided to pursue a career in medicine.

James has a deep passion for serving children and intends to pursue a career as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. He regularly volunteers in the children’s ministry of his church. He has also helped raise thousands of dollars for suicide prevention via NAMI and The Trevor Project, as a social media influencer streaming on the Twitch social media platform.

Before James' interest in academics and medicine, he was a full-time social media influencer. From a young age, she has been surrounded by her family who have inspired many of her commitments today. From watching her family members go through a variety of medical issues, to watching other family members gain the medical knowledge and the ability to make a difference within healthcare and save lives, Jasmine has always been passionate about the medical field. Jayde Frederick is a third year medical student at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Jessyka A. Harris is a second-year student at Oakwood University, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Correctional Science. She aspires to become a Forensic Psychologist by obtaining a master’s degree after graduating. Joram M. Kisaka is a second-year Oakwood University student pursuing a degree in Biology with a concentration in pre-medicine. He was born in Arusha, Tanzania, but moved with his family to Oceanside, California, at a young age, as his parents hoped to provide greater education for him and his siblings. Dr. Lori Nelson is a board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician, also known as physiatry or rehabilitation medicine, fellowship-trained in Interventional Spine/Pain Management. Her clinical practice emphasizes the nonsurgical management of musculoskeletal disease. Dr. Nelson specializes in fluoroscopic spine injections, non-operative orthopedic/sports medicine, and occupational medicine.

Graduating from Oakwood University with degrees in Biology and Music Performance, she went on to receive her medical degree from Loma Linda University. She completed an Internal Medicine internship at Drexel-Hahnemann University Hospital, and a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Boston Medical Center, where she served as chief resident. She completed a fellowship in Interventional Spine/Pain Management at Performance Spine and Sports Physicians outside of Philadelphia, PA.

Currently practicing in the DC Metro area at MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, her duties include working as an Attending for the MedStar Health/Georgetown University Hospital-National Rehabilitation Hospital PM&R Residency Training Program.

Dr. Nelson's primary goal in practice is to enhance and restore functional ability to those with physical impairments or disabilities affecting the musculoskeletal system. Unlike other medical specialties that focus on a medical “cure,” her focus is on maximizing patients’ independence in activities of daily living and improving quality of life by using a team approach involving multiple disciplines, such as physical therapy, social work, psychology, and surgery, to address a patient's individual circumstances.

Dr. Nelson has a heartfelt desire to improve healthcare disparities in historically underserved populations. With a particular ability to "make complicated things plain," she has provided presentations to community groups, young and old, and physician colleagues with a dedicated purpose to help patients understand their medical conditions and give them tools to self-navigate the medical system and direct their own care to personally improve outcomes.

My name is Louise Black-Robinson. I have been a Registered Nurse closer to 5- decades. My current title is: Senior Adjunct Nursing Professor. I have taught different classes in didactic as well as clinicals (acute & community),in Nursing, since 2006 and now I am only teaching Community/Public Health Nursing, as a Clinical Nursing Instructor.

My journey in nursing began in 1976, when I graduated from Bronx Community College, New York (NY) with an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN). I began my nursing practice as a staff nurse in the acute care setting. In August 1977, my career with the Veteran Administration (VA) Hospital began. First at St. Albans VA Medical Center, Brooklyn/Queens, NY and then I transferred to the Long Beach VA and later to Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Loma Linda, CA.

I completed both my Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN),1997, and the Master of Science Nursing (MSN) in 2003, at California State University of San Bernardino CA. In June 2012, I obtained my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Western University of Health Science, College of Nursing. In 2000, is when I started to work as a Public Health Nurse (PHN) for the Branch of Public Health Nursing at the Health Department in Riverside.CA. My nursing career allowed me to experience a variety of healthcare settings in nursing practice from acute care, home health, Public/Community Healthcare and Nurse Educator.

My current role is to instruct students in both BSN and MSN programs on Community Health/Public Health Nursing. My goals are to expand their knowledge on all aspect of Community/Public Health Nursing and for them to gain awareness that both mental and physical health began with where the individuals live and how they live does matter for a persons to have good health and achieve better healthcare outcomes, through prevention and health promotion for healthier living and well-being.

Her fight against mental health injustice has been both painful and public. Finding out her son's diagnosis of Bipolar 1 - Schizo-Affective disorder, at the age of 23 was more than upsetting, it was DEVASTATING! Dr. Michelle C. Burroughs served as HHN’s inaugural Healthcare Ambassador Chair for six years (2019–2025), during which she secured over $11,000 in grants and personal donations, served as a member of the Pressure Project, and led the Health Literacy Initiative.

Dr. Burroughs is the Director of Community Engagement and Outreach for the Center for Healthy Communities (CHC) at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. With more than 20 years of experience in public health, she leads initiatives that advance community-partnered research, population health strategies, and culturally responsive outreach across Inland Southern California. Her work is grounded in addressing health disparities and advancing equity through education, collaboration, and trust-building.

She also serves as Faculty for Community Engagement and Partnerships with the Program in Medical Education (PRIME), supporting the development of physicians committed to serving African, Black, and Caribbean (ABC) communities.

A recognized master connector, Dr. Burroughs partners with public, private, and nonprofit sectors to co-create solutions to complex health and social challenges. She is deeply committed to amplifying culturally and linguistically responsive health messages to ensure communities are informed, empowered, and actively engaged.

Dr. Milton R. Mills is a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine and a practicing Critical Care and Internal Medicine physician in the Washington, DC metro area. Dr. Mills is the founder and president of the newly formed "Physicians for a Healthy America (P4HA) which is an organization of physicians of color and other healthcare workers and interested parties. P4HA’s goal and purpose is to promote the benefits of plant-based diets in communities of color, and also support research, social initiatives, and legislative policy aimed at improving the health profiles of African Americans and other marginalized communities. In the past, Dr. Mills volunteered as Associate Director of Preventive Medicine for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a North American group of doctors and laypersons dedicated to promoting improved health care, better and more appropriate nutrition, and higher standards in medical research.

Dr. Mills has lectured and given research seminars across the United States and in Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom on a variety of preventive health topics, including the negative impacts of meat and dairy consumption on human health. Dr. Mills’ compassionate and encompassing worldview has led him to apply his knowledge about preventative healthcare toward the unique challenges of those who are under-served by the mainstream medical model: minority and less affluent populations. As Associate Director of Preventative Medicine for PCRM, Dr. Mills co-authored landmark articles on the Racial Bias in Federal Nutrition Policy published in the Journal of the National Medical Association in 1999. Nadja E. Hunt is a second-year student at Oakwood University majoring in Biology with a concentration in pre-medical studies. Nadja was born in Massachusetts, but currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri. She aspires to become an OB-GYN in hopes to be able to advocate for marginalized communities, particularly women of color. Dr. Nicole Knight-Glass is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who began her nursing career in 1994 in the civilian sector as a pediatric nurse in Washington, DC.

In 1997, she moved back to her home state of California and continued in the private sector with the adult and geriatric populations.

Dr. Knight-Glass received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Loma Linda University, CA; a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Howard University, DC; and a Doctorate in Public Health from Loma Linda University, CA.

Dr. Knight-Glass has over 20 years of experience as an Active Duty officer in the United States Public Health Service, whose mission is to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of our nation.  Dr. Knight-Glass currently holds the rank of Captain (0-6).  Dr. Knight-Glass deployments include Hurricane Katrina, President Obama’s Inauguration, Hurricane Sandy, the Unaccompanied Alien Children Humanitarian Crisis, and Washington DC Independence Day.  She has earned various awards to include the COVID-19 Pandemic Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation, Hazardous Duty Service Award, and Crisis Response Service Award.  She maintains readiness to continue to assist in times of public health emergencies.

In January 2016, Dr. Knight-Glass founded Elizabeth Manor Housing Foundation, Inc.  A corporation that provides individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities a quality of life that allows them the opportunity to participate in everyday living in their community.  The corporation consists of homes that provide residential services in a structured environment with support services, and staff with specialized training.

Dr. Knight-Glass mentors junior officers and young adults with an interest in health care and/or entrepreneurship.  Dr. Knight-Glass’s passion is to make a difference by continuing to provide much-needed services to underserved populations.

Nirma Usher was born in Costa Rica. She graduated from the Adventist Hospital School of Nursing program in La Trinidad, Esteti Nicaragua, and the Harbor UCLA Nurse Practitioners Program. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Nirma Usher served in various nursing capacities in hospitals and clinics in Nicaragua and the United States. Those positions included managerial positions.

Ms. Usher worked as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and a Colposcopist at the San Bernardino Public Health Department.

Driven by strong public service, Ms. Usher has actively engaged in local and international medical mission work.

She served on the Community Action Partnership’s (CAP) Building Links to Impact Self-Sufficiency Project (B.L.I.S.S.) She served as an Ally for Project B.L.I.S.S. as a volunteer and facilitator.

Ms. Usher is the Health Ministries Director for the Kansas Avenue SDA Church. Over the past two years she, along with the Health Ministries team, has coordinated and organized twice-monthly online discussions on various health topics.

Ms. Usher was recognized by the Black Voice News as one of the Community Builders for 2011. In 2016 she received the Outstanding Community Service Award from Kansas Avenue SDA Church Armed Forces Ministry. In 2017 Nirma received a Women of Achievement Award from the Gamma Phi Delta Sorority Far Western Region for her outreach work in the community. In 2018 she received the HIV/AIDS Awareness Distinguished Community Services Award from Operation Reach Back. She was recognized as “Komen Inland Empire Circle of Promise 2021 Cancer Care Hero!” by the Susan G. Komen Inland Empire Circle of Promise.

It is Ms. Usher’s desire is to make a positive impact in the world and that begins with family and also in the community.

Qiana obtained her BS in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), her MPH in Health Services Research (Epidemiology and Health Administration) from Loma Linda University, and her PhD in Health Administration from Capella University. She has experience in healthcare research including literature search design, study design, data analysis, meta-analyses, interpretation of results, summarizing and synthesizing data, and presentation of results. Currently she works at Optum where she is the Director of Rare Disease and Hematology. She is responsible for supporting business development activities (e.g., developing proposals, face-to-face client engagement), overseeing execution of retrospective studies (e.g., database, survey, chart abstraction, and primary data collection studies), managing senior researchers, advancing dissemination of results (e.g., manuscripts, reports, conference abstracts), managing client relationships, and overseeing study budgets and timelines.

Previously, she worked at Kaiser Permanente where for 14 years she conducted research and an evidence-based medicine approach to critically evaluate and appraise the most current scientific research literature to create national evidence-based guidelines related to cardiovascular health. More specifically, she utilized her skills in epidemiology to interpret statistical results from science and incorporate that with clinical knowledge to form evidence-based recommendations which were used at the point of care. Most recently, she was involved in critically appraising and assessing the efficacy of Covid-19 treatment trials. Her other roles in the private healthcare sector include working as Sr. Researcher for a pharmaceutical consulting company (Cerner) and Sr. Project Manager for PacifiCare Health Systems (now UnitedHealthcare) evaluating literature and creating their medical treatment guidelines. Other roles include working for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, HIV Epidemiology department serving as a research manager and researcher on several CDC funded HIV studies. She has numerous publications and has presented at several conferences. She currently is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated where she was appointed to serve as the National Chair of the National Health Task Force from 2020-2024 and currently serves as the Regional Program Chair. She is also the past President of the Inland Empire Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Ramona Snipes, MD, is the chief compliance officer and assistant executive medical director of Permanente Human Resources and People and Culture for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG).

SCPMG is one of the largest self-governing medical groups in the country, consisting of more than 7,800 physicians caring for nearly 4.7 million Kaiser Permanente members in 234 medical office buildings and 15 hospitals across Southern California.

In her role as chief compliance officer, Dr. Snipes collaborates closely with SCPMG general counsel and legal team; Permanente Human Resources; Internal Audit; Business Systems and Reporting; key leaders across KFHP/H; and our medical center service areas to further develop a strong compliance program that reflects our SCPMG culture of ethics, high integrity, and patient-centered perspective.

As assistant executive medical director, Dr. Snipes works with Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity; Physician Wellness; and Physician and Physician Leader Development teams providing oversight to ensure the execution of strategic programs in the key areas of people and culture.

Dr. Snipes joined Kaiser Permanente Southern California in 2008 and became a partner physician with SCPMG in 2011, serving as chief of service for the Emergency Department at San Bernardino County Medical Center, where she also served as the physician liaison for disaster planning and triage. Before assuming her current position in January 2019, Dr. Snipes had also served as the assistant area medical director of the Hospital-Based Service Line at the Kaiser Permanente San Bernardino Medical Centers since 2016.

Dr. Snipes received her bachelor’s degree at Oakwood College in Alabama before receiving her medical degree in 1999 from Loma Linda University. She completed her emergency medicine residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in 2003. Prior to her time at Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Snipes was a physician, and later partner physician, at Emergency Physicians of Tidewater in Virginia and also held an associate clinical professorship in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the California American College of Emergency Physicians, and the San Bernardino County Medical Society.

In her downtime, Dr. Snipes enjoys science fiction, reading, and comedy. Her favorite way of spending a day is at the beach with her favorite people – her husband of 20 years and her 2 daughters.

Reyna Pergerson is a dedicated medical student at Loma Linda University, hailing from Appomattox, VA, with a passion for becoming a family physician. Committed to improving healthcare access for all, regardless of financial or insurance status, she advocates for preventative healthcare, women’s health, and children’s well- being. In addition to her medical studies, Reyna has diverse experience, including teaching science abroad to middle and high school students, creating a website offering healthy meal resources for parents, and currently developing an app to provide these resources at parents' fingertips.

Driven by a future goal of providing primary care for both insured and uninsured populations, Reyna is especially focused on promoting equal healthcare access in underserved areas. Friends describe her as kind, thoughtful, and witty with a sense of humor that’s hard to miss. A lover of dance, she can often be found tearing it up on the salsa and bachata floors, and when not dancing, she enjoys cooking, gardening, playing classical guitar, and thrifting.

Dr. Ricardo J. Whyte is an experienced medical director with a demonstrated history of almost 20 years in the healthcare industry.

He is skilled in healthcare consulting, case management, prevention, addiction medicine, and healthcare information technology (HIT). Additionally, Dr, Whyte is the proud Founder of the Master Mind Institute that has developed the Thrive Membership that supports its members in establishing life balance and resilience fortification. Since 2017, Dr. Whyte has served as the Section Chief of Psychiatry at the Community Hospital of San Bernardino, a Dignity Health Hospital. Before his current leadership role, he was the Medical Director of the Chemical Dependency Unit at the Behavioral Medicine Center of Loma Linda University Health and the Medical Director of Outpatient Psychiatry at the Behavioral Health Institute of Loma Linda University Health. Also, he was formerly on the faculty at Loma Linda University as an Assistant Professor in its Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Whyte is a graduate of Atlantic Union College with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Cum Laude. He then earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Whyte completed his Psychiatry Residency at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Dr. Whyte went on to complete an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and achieved Double Board Certification in Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry as well as Addiction Psychiatry. As a distinguished thought leader and subject matter expert, Dr. Whyte launched www.Blacktherapy.com to start a campaign for the healing of the Black Community in response to the recent racial tensions.

Sersie Blue is a spiritual health coach and like many of you out there, Sersie Blue is an overcomer of a profound personal tragedy, which she experienced after health issues during her second pregnancy.

It was in this difficult season of her life she realized a deeper need for the Lord and decided to lean into Him more and participate in a one-month Daniel Fast. Little did she know that this simple decision would transform her life. But God knew! It turns out that combining intentional prayer with a whole-food, plant-based diet was a divine bridge to a breakthrough. From this, “The Faithful Vegan” was born. Sersie also hosts the Eat Your Best Life podcast. Seeking after God from an early age, she graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. She went on to Tyndale College & Seminary, graduating with a Master’s of Divinity in Counseling, and has also completed the health coach program from Wellcoaches at the University of North Florida. She continually seeks knowledge and wisdom that supports her personal growth and that of others. In addition, she is co-author of A Prayer for Your Health Journal. A native New Yorker, Dr. Brown-Fraser completed her Ph.D. at Harvard University (Boston, Ma), in Biological Sciences in Public Health, with a concentration in Nutritional Biochemistry within the Harvard School of Public Health - Division of Medical Sciences. Her expertise is in lipid/cholesterol metabolism, cardiovascular disease prevention, and genetic epidemiology. Dr. Brown-Fraser completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Brown-Fraser impacted national policies as an Interdisciplinary Scientist for the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). She further impacted national policy as a Science Fellow with the NIH Division of Nutrition Research Coordination (DNRC); The United States Surgeon General; and The U.S. Office of Minority Health. She co-founded of a thriving Community Organic Vegetable Garden in Baltimore, MD, and served as co-PI of a nutritional neuroscience research project to help at-risk African American high school students in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Dr. Brown-Fraser is a tenured Full Professor of Nutrition, Dietetics & Public Health at Oakwood University providing program direction and instruction in nutrition biochemistry, vegetarian nutrition, food science, medical nutrition, and honors research. She was the department chair and an Oakwood alumni (BS, Biochemistry). As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN), and Certified Personal Trainer, Dr. Brown-Fraser is dedicated to health equity, advancing health promotion, disease prevention, and children’s access to real, delicious, whole plant foods. Her research is published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Brown Fraser is passionate about plant-based nutrition as a powerful tool for well-being, health, and social justice.

Stacia Johnston is the Director of Health Equity Advancement at the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Her career began fifteen years ago in the health sector, where she worked to support the communications and marketing department at a small breast cancer organization. Overtime, she began to uncover the inequities in healthcare and how historically underserved populations were negatively impacted through poor health outcomes and disproportionate mortality.

Among her many roles at ACLM, Stacia is honored to serve as staff liaison for ACLM’s Health Equity Achieved through Lifestyle Medicine (HEAL) Initiative, which focuses on lifestyle medicine solutions to address lifestyle related chronic disease health disparities. Through community engagement efforts, partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) medical schools, and federally qualified health centers, the HEAL Initiative is working to make lifestyle medicine accessible by acknowledging social drivers of health (SDoH) and supporting institutions to advance their practice by adopting lifestyle medicine models help patients navigate (SDoH). In addition, Stacia manages partnerships with minority medical associations and organizations to provide underrepresented in medicine clinicians with training and certification in lifestyle medicine through scholarships designed to diversify the medical workforce.

Taylor Bryann holds a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Loma Linda University and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She has extensive experience treating speech and language disorders across diverse age groups and settings—most recently in the Del Mar Union School District. She also serves on the California Speech and Hearing Association (CSHA) District 9 Advisory and Honors Committee, providing strategic insights to the CSHA Board of Directors.

In addition to her professional expertise in speech pathology, Taylor is an avid traveler. Her more notable adventures include teaching English in South Korea, motorbiking through Southeast Asia, and collaborating with a Kaimirimiri (a practitioner of traditional Māori bodywork) in Australia. These experiences helped to fuel an interest in indigenous healing practices, functional nutrition, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care and led to her pursuing certification as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Taylor subsequently founded Alchemy Health Solutions LLC, a holistic nutrition practice based in San Diego, the city she calls home. In this role, she facilitates community workshops, teaches small group classes, and provides one-on-one coaching focused on nutrition and wellness. Taylor is particularly committed to helping women reconnect with their bodies and recover a sense of vitality through nutritional self-care

Upon graduation, Taylor aims to bring a holistic approach to the field of Speech-Language Pathology, integrating her unique array of knowledge and skills into a whole-body approach to health, communication, and connection.

In her leisure time, Taylor enjoys volunteering with the Junior League of San Diego, attending concerts, and attempting to write the next great American novel.

Tiffany is a student at High Desert Medical College, pursuing a degree in Cardiac Sonography. She joined Heart Healthy Nation in efforts to promote the access of vital healthcare information to all communities. Her passion is inspired by her experience working for her family’s elderly care home facility and her belief in treating others with dignity and empathy.

In her free time, she enjoys running, home cooking, and spending time in nature.

Through her work with Heart Healthy Nation, Tiffany aims to extend her knowledge beyond the classroom to empower the next generation to become advocates of their health and well-being.

Tori is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, dedicated to helping patients restore mobility, build strength, and achieve a healthier, more active lifestyle. Her passion for physical therapy stems from her own recovery following a volleyball injury, where she experienced the transformative impact of personalized care for long-term healing.

Tori is committed to empowering individuals to regain independence and improve their overall quality of life. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, running 10k races, baking, attending live music events, and painting.

Wheddy Laguerre is a rising 4th-year medical student at Loma Linda University School of Medicine striving to make a meaningful impact in healthcare. Born in Haiti and raised in Florida, Wheddy has witnessed firsthand the lack of accessible healthcare resources and health education in minority communities. These experiences have fueled his passion for advocacy, mentorship, and bridging the gap in healthcare disparities. He is interested in pursuing a career in Family Medicine with the goal of educating underrepresented minorities on preventive care and chronic disease management while also participating in global health through mission trips to serve underserved populations abroad.

My name is Wonders Eze, and I am a passionate and dedicated volunteer who strives to meet the needs of all those I encounter, while providing them with comfort and safety. I recently accepted the position of Treasurer of Citrus Free Care at UCR, an organization dedicated to meeting the needs of members of the Jurupa Valley community. As the former Women’s Health Committee officer, I distributed hygiene and menstrual kits, along with educational pamphlets discussing various women-specific medical conditions.

I am very committed to my position as a tutor through Teach For America. This program allows students in lower-funded school districts to obtain the education they deserve. Over the past year, I taught math to middle schoolers in Texas via Zoom, and this quarter, I am continuing the program by teaching elementary schoolers math as well. I find this program incredibly fulfilling and enjoy making a positive impact on my students.

As a research assistant in the Saltzman Lab at UCR, I assist several graduate students with running experiments and conducting other tests related to their research projects. I have grown accustomed to collecting data, running tests, and performing other project-specific procedures on our strain of mice, Peromyscus californicus.

Volunteering at Kaiser Permanente has given me the privilege of interacting with countless patients. My time in this hospital has allowed me to grow in professionalism and develop a sense of trust with all patients entrusted to me. Listening to and cultivating safe environments for every patient has deepened my patient interaction skills and strengthened my commitment and devotion to volunteer work

Andrea Hibbert focuses her practice on real estate and commercial litigation, including commercial and residential landlord-tenant law.

Andrea Hibbert was born in the Bronx, New York. Andrea graduated from New York University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Metropolitan Studies. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall School of Law in 2012. While in Law School, Andrea was appointed Dean’s fellow for the first-year students, earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Pre-Trial Practice & Procedure, and achieved honors in Criminal Law, Professional Responsibility, Evidence I, and Pre-Trial Practice & Procedure. Andrea was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia Bar in 2013. Hibbert is an attorney in the firm’s Litigation and Default Services Department. She focuses her practice on real estate and commercial litigation, including commercial and residential landlord-tenant law.

Ms. Batiste is Senior Counsel in the Los Angeles office of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP and a member of the Employment Practice Group. Her practice primarily focuses on complex wage and hour disputes, including class actions and PAGA representative actions. Her work also includes litigation of wrongful termination, retaliation, employment discrimination and harassment claims. Ms. Batiste has defended California employers in both state and federal venues. She regularly represents employers and organizations in court and administrative hearings. She also provides strategic advice and counseling to employers in various industries such as security, manufacturing, education, and food service. She regularly conducts investigations of claims and allegations related to wage and hour disputes, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace misconduct.

Ms. Batiste received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Oakwood University, and her Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law. Ms. Batiste is passionate about mentorship and inspiring young minorities to transform their lives through education.

Brooke Batiste is a dedicated second-year student at Oakwood University, majoring in Pre-Law with a minor in Hospital Administration. With aspirations to become a medical malpractice attorney, Brooke is committed to pursuing her law degree upon graduation.

Passionate about mentorship and empowering the Black community, Brooke has devoted numerous volunteer hours to supporting children in various camps and programs. As a frequent volunteer with Healthy Heart Nation's Pressure Project, she has witnessed firsthand the profound impact of "showing up" and providing people with the time and attention they need.

Brooke's leadership skills will be further showcased as she spearheads the volunteer efforts of the Pressure Project at Oakwood University, focusing on supporting barbershops and churches in the Huntsville, AL area.

Carmian West is a dedicated Detention Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, where she has honorably served for six years. Currently residing in San Bernardino County, Ms. West has long harbored a passion for law enforcement and takes immense pride in her contributions to the department.

Ms. West holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, with a specialization in Public Relations and Advertising, from California State University Dominguez Hills. This academic background has endowed her with exceptional communication skills, which she adeptly applies in her professional responsibilities.

In addition to her professional duties, Ms. West is actively involved in community service. She regularly volunteers at local shelters and participates in community outreach programs aimed at fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. Ms. West is particularly committed to supporting the Black community, working tirelessly to promote equality, justice, and empowerment through various initiatives and mentorship programs.

In her leisure time, Ms. West values the company of friends and family, enjoys traveling, maintains an active lifestyle through exercise, and delights in exploring new places and dining at various restaurants. She approaches life with enthusiasm and is continually eager to embrace new experiences.

Danielle Roseberry is a senior at Oakwood University where she is pursuing a degree in Communication (BA) and a minor in Political Science.

She is a member of Alpha Chi, a national collegiate honors society.  Although Danielle is a Communication major, her interest in law was piqued during the pandemic when she began assisting her mother in her family law practice.  Danielle has continued to work with her mother as a legal intern at Bryant Roseberry Law, LLC.  After graduation, Danielle plans to attend law school.

Ericca L. Pearson has been practicing law for nearly 25 years.  Her practice focuses primarily on estate planning but also includes trust administration and probate law.

Ericca has a passion for estate planning that blossomed after the loss of her mother.  She resolved then that she would educate as many families, specifically African-American families, about the importance of estate planning.  It has become her mission to teach families how to protect their most precious asset, your family, from the dangers of not having the proper estate plan.   Additionally, Ericca wants families to learn how to distribute their property in a manner that allows them to live in peace, as opposed to resting in peace.

Ericca leads Estate Planning seminars regularly.  These seminars explain how designing an estate plan is a means to providing generational wealth, but even more so, how creating an estate plan leaves a legacy to your family instead of a mess.

Ericca is proud to have attended two (2) HBCUs.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Oakwood College (currently Oakwood University) in Huntsville, Alabama.  She received her Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law, in Washington, DC.  She is licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Giget C. Johnson graduated from Clark Atlanta University, located in Atlanta, Georgia, with both a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Science degree.

She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law, located in Macon, Georgia. Admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2002, Giget is licensed to practice law in both state and federal courts, at both trial and appellate levels. She is admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia, the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, the U.S. District Court in the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh and Sixth Circuits. A criminal defense lawyer to the core of her being, Giget also handles family law and juvenile law cases.

Heather Willis MA LPC NCC, QMHP, QIDP, CMHP has 20 years of experience providing crisis and trauma services, most recently as a clinical responder following the Oxford School Shooting.

Heather has a master’s degree in Counseling from Wayne State University. She has 20 years of experience providing crisis and trauma services, most recently as a clinical responder following the Oxford School Shooting. Her expertise in the Behavioral Health field has led to her being a featured guest contributor and speaker at conferences, radio, and television programs i.e., PBS “A Wider World.” Heather is currently working in leadership at Oakland Community Health Network’s Justice Initiative Team and is a member of Michigan’s State Court Administrative Office’s Mental Health Court Advisory Committee. She is the founder of Clarity Counseling Associates and has been serving the community as a therapist there.

Jada-Celeste is a dedicated second-year student at Oakwood University, pursuing a degree in Psychology. Born and raised in Monroe, Georgia, she has always been passionate about understanding human behavior and the complexities of the mind. From an early age, she displayed a deep curiosity about why people think, feel, and act the way they do, which has driven her to explore various psychological theories and their real-world applications. She enjoys studying different aspects of human cognition, emotion, and behavior, constantly seeking to expand her knowledge and apply it to practical settings.

With a strong academic foundation and a heart for service, Jada-Celeste aspires to build a career in Forensic Psychology, where she can bridge the gap between psychology and the legal system. She is particularly interested in the psychological factors that contribute to criminal behavior, the rehabilitation of offenders, and the role mental health plays in the justice system. Her goal is to use her expertise to provide insight into criminal cases, assist in offender rehabilitation, and advocate for mental health awareness within the legal framework. She is committed to making a meaningful impact in the field, using psychology as a tool to promote justice, fairness, and understanding.

Hailing “straight outta” Compton, California, JaVon is an attorney at Jackson Lewis, P.C., a national tier 1 employer defense law firm.  JaVon has been recognized by the National Black Lawyers as one of the top 100 lawyers in California since 2019.  She has also been named as Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for 2021. JaVon specializes in representing employers on traditional labor law issues, which include collective bargaining negotiations, unfair labor practice charges, and election campaigns.  Additionally, she defends employers against discrimination, retaliation, and harassment claims.  JaVon earned her law degree (J.D.) at Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Aside from her legal expertise, JaVon has a passion for studying unique and creative ways on how people communicate to promote change in society. She volunteers as a judge for the American Moot Court Association, providing feedback to college students on how to effectively craft arguments on constitutional issues.  JaVon also sits on the Board of Advisors of the First Amendment Studies Program at CSULB, a platform designed to help students express their views and opinions to the full extent of their First Amendment rights. JaVon graduated summa cum laude from California State University, Long Beach (“CSULB”), with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, focusing on communication, culture and public affairs.

As a member of Healthy Heart Nation, JaVon is dedicated to serving the needs of her African American community.  She has appeared on panels to discuss career goals for young African American professionals and recently held the Diversity and Inclusion Associate Chair position at her firm. Currently, JaVon is in the process of writing a book on marriage for Black women. In her free time, JaVon enjoys going on weekend getaways with her husband and spoiling her pug dog, Harald.

Jeffery Redcross is a highly decorated law enforcement professional with 26 years of experience.

Mr. Redcross began his career upon his graduation from the University of Alabama Law Enforcement Academy in 1995. He began work a patrol officer with the Florence, Alabama Police Department. While on patrol, Officer Redcross made numerous arrests from public intoxication to murder. Because he excelled in the patrol division, in 2000, Officer Redcross was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division where he began investigating property crime (thefts and burglaries). After 2 years, he switched and investigated violent crimes (rape, robbery, and homicide). After 2 years, Investigator Redcross was promoted to Sergeant and transferred back to the patrol division supervising police officers. Sgt. Redcross was eventually promoted to Lieutenant where he commanded a shift of police officers and supervised sergeants.

During his tenure, Lt. Redcross received several community service awards and acted as a liaison between the community and the department as well as other law enforcement agencies. Awards include (3) Life-Saving awards, (2) Police Medals, Felony Arrest Award, and Courtroom Preparation Award.

Lt. Redcross retired at the rank of lieutenant in 2020.

Upon Graduation from High School in 1990, Mr. Redcross enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve with the entry rank of Private First-Class (PFC). Upon graduation from Recruit Training, PFC Redcross was the “Honor Graduate” of Platoon 2078 and received a meritorious promotion to Lance Corporal (LCPL). LCPL Redcross was then promoted to Corporal and then to Sergeant (Sgt) where he commanded numerous U.S. Marines. After serving 8 years, Sgt. Redcross was honorably discharged in 1998.

While in the Marine Corps Reserve, Sgt. Redcross attended the University of North Alabama (UNA) on a full athletic scholarship after playing one year of high school football. After his return from Paris Island, SC, he began his football career in 1990. He played on the 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993 UNA Football Teams. Because of his leadership, he led UNA to a perfect 14-0 football season leading UNA to its first National Championship (1993). That year he was elected as the Defensive National Player of the Year, All-American selection, and Gulf-South Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He was ultimately elected in the UNA, Huntsville-Madison County, and Sparkman Halls of Fame respectively.

In 2001, Mr. Redcross received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from UNA. He went on to attend Birmingham School of Law where he received a Juris Doctor in 2019. Mr. Redcross was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 2021.

Judie Saunders is a Partner with ASK LLP, a national law firm offering individuals and corporations, bankruptcy, transactional and litigation services. Judie leads the firm’s Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking Department. Judie has more than twenty years of experience litigating cases involving sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and discrimination. Judie has represented survivors in cases against USA Gymnastics, local and state governments, and clergy abuse survivors. Judie has extensive courtroom experience, including conducting administrative hearings and jury trials.

Judie is an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and International Institution of Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR).

Prior to ASK LLP, Judie represented and counseled numerous high-profile clients including Olympians, NCAA Division I student-athletes and elite gymnasts, where she sought redress for injuries sustained due to abusive coaching practices.

Judie also spent a significant amount of her career in politics, including as a legislative analyst for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and as a staff member on several state and national campaigns.

Judie is an established thought leader in areas related to the intersection of law, policy, and human rights. Judie is a co-author of “A War on My Body: A War on My Rights,” with several renowned women’s rights advocates.

Judie is a Sexual Misconduct Title IX Advisor to colleges and universities, including Carnegie Mellon University. Judie also works with academic institutions to provide Respect in Workplace Trainings. Judie is a Delaware State University Advisory Board Member to the Make Your Mark on the Sports World. Judie is a regularly scheduled Guest Lecturer on Sports and Ethics at New York University.

Judie extends her knowledge of sexual misconduct to businesses and governmental entities where she is retained to conduct internal investigations into sexual harassment and discrimination. Judie is an active member of the Association of Workplace Investigators.

Karen Scott Green’s legal experience has included family law, juvenile law, criminal law, real estate, and bankruptcy.  For the last several years, she has mainly focused on representing children and families.

I was born and raised in Broward County, Florida in the small close-knit community of Carver Ranches.  Growing up in Carver Ranches was very much like being raised in a village, with neighbors looking out for one another.  My parents were a big part of this village.  My mother owned a salon in the community and my father, who started as a volunteer fireman, went on to become one of the first African American Captains in the county.  They instilled in me the importance of hard work, family values, and a strong sense of community.

I took those values with me to become a proud graduate of Georgia Tech and St. Thomas University School of Law.   Since graduating from law school in 1994, I have spent the majority of my legal career as a solo practitioner.  I am also a registered mediator, arbitrator, and trained Guardian ad-Litem.  My legal experience has included family law, juvenile law, criminal law, real estate, and bankruptcy.  For the last several years, my work has mainly focused on representing children and families. Her career highlights include serving as an EEO/Title IX Investigator at The University System of Georgia, where she leads investigations into discrimination and sexual misconduct, ensuring adherence to Title IX, Title VII, and other federal regulations. Kelly is adept at legal writing, preparing evidence-based findings, and designing faculty and staff training programs that align with institutional values and compliance standards.

Before her current role, Kelly honed her skills as a Legal Project Manager, resolving workplace investigations and implementing data privacy frameworks. Her tenure includes guiding cross-functional teams in global compliance initiatives and spearheading training programs to strengthen workplace policies. Additionally, her experience has further solidified her capabilities in addressing consumer privacy challenges and regulatory compliance.

Kelly is a certified civil mediator with additional certifications in Title IX, policy, compliance, crisis management, and business resiliency. Reverend Derrick L. Green, a native of New Jersey earned his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University-Newark and obtained his Master of Public Management from the University of Maryland, School of Public Policy.

Reverend Green understood very early his mission in life was to address socio economic injustice both domestic and throughout the African Diaspora. In January 2018, Reverend Green was appointed to the office of Senior Advisor for Diversity, Faith, Urban and Regional Growth for New Jersey Governor Phil D Murphy. In this role, Reverend Green works to implement public policy that will help all people. He interfaces with the faith-based community and key stakeholders to help build strong communities. He led a successful GOTV Operation, delivering ninety-four per cent of the African American vote for Governor Phil Murphy. He is an ordained Elder in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Reverend Green has dedicated much of his life to empowering urban communities locally and internationally. His unprecedented and unconventional work with legislators led to several state positions. He has advised Heads of state, Senators, Governors, Mayors, County Executives and countless other elected officials and community leaders. In 2000, Elder Green served as Projects Director to United States Senator Jon S Corzine. In 2006, Reverend Green coordinated a campaign in Maryland, Prince Georges County, one of the largest and wealthiest counties in the nation, the people of Prince Georges County overwhelmingly elected him to a four-year term on the Democratic Central Committee. He was responsible for Democrats being elected statewide. In 2008, Reverend Green led a small group of political operatives in Maryland as an early supporter, of then, Senator Barack H. Obama, who became the democratic candidate for President of the United States of America.

Since October 2021, Ms. Hardy has been serving as the Chief of Police for the Greater Los Angeles VA HealthCare System.

Robyn M. Hardy began her law enforcement career with the Department of Veterans Affairs in September of 1996 at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. In December 1998, she was promoted to Detective/Sergeant and in December 2000 she was promoted to Criminal Investigator. Ms. Hardy managed the criminal investigations program, conducting local as well as national criminal and administrative investigations until April 2010, when she accepted an interim Chief’s position in Des Moines, Iowa. Ms. Hardy remained in that position until accepting a Special Agent and Special Deputy U.S. Marshal position with OSLE in June 2010.

Ms. Hardy served in numerous capacities such as in the Intelligence and Crime Analysis Division as program manager, OSLE Duty Agent in the VA Integrated Operations Center, and as an Inspector for Field Operations. Ms. Hardy is trained in physical security, and executive protection, and is a certified law enforcement instructor.

Ms. Hardy accepted the Chief of Police position at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in November of 2015 and remained in that position until March of 2018 when she accepted the position of the facility Equal Opportunity Manager. Ms. Hardy remained in that position until January 2019.

In January 2019, Ms. Hardy accepted the Chief of Police position at the Washington D.C. VA Medical Center. During her tenure as Chief, Ms. Hardy was successful in obtaining a 64% pay increase for police officers, initiating updates in the aging communications system, and physical security infrastructure, and reducing significant staffing shortages.

Ms. Hardy accepted the Chief of Police position at the Greater Los Angeles VA HealthCare System in October of 2021 and currently remains in that position.

Ms. Hardy has undergone extensive leadership training throughout her career and earned a bachelor’s degree in Management and Organizational Development (minor in Criminal Justice) from Spring Arbor University. Ms. Hardy has earned a Master of Science Degree in Information Assurance with a concentration in Digital End to End Investigations, and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in International Terrorism from Norwich University. Ms. Hardy is working towards a doctorate in Management with a specialization in Homeland Security with an anticipated graduation in September 2024.

During her career, Ms. Hardy has received several performance awards to include OSLE Special Agent of the Year in 2011.

Ms. Hardy served 13 years with the United States Army.

Ms. Hardy has two children and two grandchildren and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.

Sergeant Darryl R. Smith graduated from Oakwood University in 1990 with a degree in Biology. In 1993, he participated in the Medical Research and Technology Program at the University of Maryland.

After completing his education, he began his journey in law enforcement. Sergeant Smith became a squad leader during his initial training at the Baltimore Police Academy.

Smith served as an officer for 10 years and in 2004, he was promoted to Police Sergeant. Sergeant Smith currently works as a high-ranking officer within the Baltimore Police Department. His current position is in the Special Investigation Section for Child Abuse. Smith has over two decades of experience in the police force and has trained with several different units. Sergeant Smith is driven and passionate about his work in law enforcement. He is a dedicated man who has given over 27 years of his life to protect and serve his community justly and fairly.

Alivia Lespinasse is a passionate advocate for mental health and holistic wellness. In addition to her undergraduate degree in Human Development, she is currently pursuing her masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University.

Currently, she practices as an intern therapist at a high school in Los Angeles, CA where she sees a variety of clients composed of individuals, couples, and families. She prefers to practice from a systemic and narrative lens, believing that one's individual challenges are best conquered as a collective and in collaboration with the greater systems at play. She is enthusiastic about healing, recovery, and the importance of instilling hope and agency. An approach that she aspires to take whenever occupying a room as a mental health professional is to emphasize the leadership capabilities of the client within the therapeutic space. She firmly believes that one's unique life experiences make them the foremost expert in their own lives, and therefore focuses her work on encouraging and empowering clients as they forge their own path toward recovery. With this, she aims to act as an anchored support and a "fellow traveler" in her client's journeys toward healing. She is anticipating graduating in June 2025, in which she will become an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist as she attains licensure.

Leisurely, Alivia loves to spend her time with her family and loved ones. In addition, she greatly enjoys gratitude journaling, poetry, prayer, and spending time in nature. She is eager to work alongside Healthy Heart Nation to promote the quality of care that everyone undoubtedly deserves.

She began her career in the private school setting and after seven years, transitioned to the public-school sector.  Once there, she participated in many professional learnings that helped prepare her for the various populations that she serves.

Ms. Davis left the classroom after 16 years to advance to the role of school administrator.   She currently serves as the assistant principal in one of the most diverse communities in Nashville, TN.  Her school enrolls students in Pre-K through fourth grade and over 19 languages are represented.  Her roles as an administrator have included; 504 Coordinator, School Improvement Lead, HERO Liaison, and coordinator for state testing. Recent trainings include; Civil Rights, Title IX, English Language Learner Classroom Strategies, Jason Foundation Suicide Prevention, DCS Reporting, and Emergency Crisis Planning.

Her passion as an administrator is mentoring teachers and ensuring families and students have educational access.  Known throughout the community to do “drive-bys.” Ms. Davis has visited students’ homes as a welcome to the school year rides the school bus regularly and knows the names of about 70 percent of her 673 students.  Ultimately she desires to help each child progress through their academic, social, and emotional development.

Upon graduating in 2000 Brandi didn’t realize that her denial into Washington State University would be the kickstarter into the masterclass of her future that was to become. It was through the appeal process that she needed to face the realities of her past growing up. She navigated the appeal process on her own and had an opportunity to share her situation as to why she would be a great addition to the institution. Eventually, everything worked out and she became the first person in her family to attend and graduate from college. Earning her B.A. in Management from Washington State University and M.B.A. from City University in Change Management.

Though this carried a lot of pressure, it was a task that she was built for. The pressure to succeed, persevere, and pave the way for her younger siblings and now sons and daughter.

Brandi has always had a nurturing and serving spirit which has led her to be involved in many community-centered opportunities, and events and become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Currently, Brandi is known for motivating future leaders, igniting passion to succeed, and instilling the courage to keep going.  Brandi strives to empower, inspire, and encourage youth to achieve their dreams.

She is committed to helping other students, especially first-generation college students to do the same. Her experience ranges from leading afterschool programs, mentoring/coaching 1-1, and college and career guidance counseling across middle/high schools and she’s just getting started.

Dr. Brandon Gamble received his training in psychology from Oakwood College for his Bachelor's degree, San Diego State for his Master's degree, and the University of Southern California is where he earned his Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology.

From 1998 to 2009, he served middle and high school students as a school psychologist in the Long Beach Unified School District before becoming an associate professor at Cal State University Long Beach, in the College of Education for the Educational Psychology program from 2007 to 2017. He has had the honor to serve as the adviser for the Black Student Union at CSULB. Also, from 2018-2021, he was at his undergraduate alma mater to serve as a professor of Psychology and the Dean of Student Success at Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL. In 2021, he served as the Charles Bell Faculty Scholar for the Black Resource Center (BRC) at San Diego State University (SDSU). He was the Director of the BRC at SDSU in the Spring of 2022-2024. Currently, he serves as the inaugural Director for the Office of Black Student Success at Cal State University San Bernardino.

Diane has served the greater Long Beach, Wilmington, and San Pedro communities for over 28 years with over 34 years of experience in the field of Early Care and Education.

Diane Payton is the Program Director at Child Lane. Diane has years of experience in both teaching and administrative experience. She is instrumental in providing high-quality education and care for children ages 4 months of age to Kindergarten in a variety of settings including licensed centers and licensed family child care homes.

Diane is involved in the organization EveryChild California which provides and develops leadership and education opportunities that support publicly funded early care and education programs for children. Her expertise is used in teacher training and professional development workshops and is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Earsel Pearl is a 7th grade teacher at WMS in Huntsville, Alabama. She enjoys encouraging and inspiring young kids. When she’s not teaching, she is known for her passion for prayer. She is a powerhouse who strives to encourage people through dance, praise/worship, plays and the preached word of God. Earsel Pearl has established several dance ministries over the years to equip young and older women to go after the presence of God through dance and worship. In 2019 she was led by the Holy Spirit to start the Safe Haven which is a prayer line for women who desire to get closer to the Lord.

Earsel Pearl is a part of Ambassador of Grace which is a non-profit organization that strives to spread the Word of Christ all throughout the nations. In 2019 she was able to go to Ghana to minister to the men and women in the small village of Mozambique. Earsel Pearl is an encourager at heart, and uses her own experiences, triumphs, and challenges to lead those in her presence closer to the Lord. She is driven by faith and dedication. She desires to see those who come in her presence changed, delivered and set free. She believes whole heartedly that it takes boldness, humility and the grace of God to fulfill your purpose in this day and time. Erin Kimble is from Los Angles, CA. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Spelman College in 2019. Recently, she completed her Master of Science degree in Counseling, option in School Psychology from California State University - Los Angeles. Erin is passionate about supporting minority students and aims to advocate for all students to ensure they receive the necessary supports that are specific to their needs. Through her new role as a School Psychologist, Erin hopes to foster resiliency and a willingness to grow in the students that she works with. In her free time, Erin enjoys exploring new restaurants and locations in LA, journaling, and catching up on her favorite television shows.

Dr. Jacqueline Marshall was born in Washington DC. She is a product of Prince George's County Public School System. Dr. Ms. Marshall was born and raised in Prince George's County where she attended and graduated from Prince George’s County Public Schools having attended Kettering Elementary and Kettering Middle School before graduating from Largo High School in 1994.

Dr. Marshall went on to the University of MD College Park where she graduated in 1998 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. From there she obtained a Master's of Arts in Reading Education from Bowie State in 2006, and a Master's of Science in Administration and Leadership from Trinity University, also in 2006. Jacqueline most recently received her Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Policy from the University of Maryland College Park in 2017. She has worked in Prince George's County School system for 19 years. After leaving the school system she founded Bold Beautiful Brilliant Girls Youth Empowerment Group, which currently serves 20 girls between the ages of 8-18 years of age. Bold Beautiful Brilliant Girls Youth Empowerment Group is a 501c3 Nonprofit Organization founded to empower young ladies to be change agents in society. We are born with the innate ability to explore, learn, and create. We want young ladies to be empowered to dream big and be the change that they want to see in the world. We want them to identify the needs in their community and provide learning opportunities for them to discover and create resources that address that specific need.

She is also currently working on an Anti-Racist Innovation Team that serves System Partners throughout the United States in creating anti-racist organizations. She works to ensure that school systems create systems and structures that are equitable and anti-racist.

Dr. Marshall most recently purchased her first franchise, Kumon under her own LLC., H.E.A.L. Healthy Energetic Active Lifestyle. Dr. Marshall focuses on supporting students academically in math and reading in the Bowie area.

Dr. Marshall also has two children and lives in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Ms. Holmes is an educator with 30 years of experience in curriculum and instruction, EdTech, teacher and  leadership development and virtual learning. Her strengths include curriculum design, assessment and evaluation and program development. Ms. Holmes holds an Ed.S. from Georgia Southern University, and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Georgia State University.   In addition, she supports consultants' in researching and reviewing curriculum standards,  developing outcomes, and determining strategies for measuring effectiveness.

Morgan McGhee is a public health dietitian who has worked in school nutrition in Texas, California, and Virginia.

She is a strong advocate for a nation where all children have access to sustainable healthy food that links the cafeteria to the classroom. She passionately believes that a school nutrition department can be a change agent in the community when innovative partnerships are coupled with dynamic leadership. McGhee currently works at FoodCorps as the Director of School Nutrition Leadership, collaborating with partners across the national AmeriCorps service program to move school food systems change forward.

MYA HAMILTON, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, began dancing at the young age of five. She studied at The Ailey School, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, The Peabody Conservatory, and The Washington School of Ballet. She is a Baltimore School for the Arts Alumna, cum laude graduate of Towson University with a BFA in Dance Performance, and graduate of Purchase College, SUNY with a MFA in Performance/Teaching. Upon graduating from High School, Mrs. Hamilton was proclaimed the Maryland Distinguished Scholar and Silver Medalist in the ACT-SO Performing Arts competition. With faith being the head of her moral compass, she joined the National Homeless Tour as a liturgical dancer with Harpist Jeff Majors in 2011. Her first professional assignment in the industry, however, was with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line in 2013. Her experience with the intense rehearsal process, work ethic, and immense love for the craft has been shared with her students of The Empowerment Academy Charter School since joining in 2013 until 2018. She has created an after-school program along with hosting three summer dance intensives at the school which allowed the students to perform at Artscape and Light City Baltimore. She held the role of chapter sponsor of the Honor Society for Dance Arts through the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) which nurtures and preserves dance education in the 21st century and beyond. She accepted and maintained the role of adjudicator for the Artist Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award for high school students for three years. In 2014, she was recognized as an awardee for the Women in the Arts program part of The Links Foundation which promotes educational, civic, and inter-cultural activities to enrich the lives of members of the African-American community. She graciously accepted the role of a dancer in the “Oh Gospel” televised event in 2015 with live accompaniment from Dr. Kenneth M. Dean from the Masters Trio. Her choreography has been presented by Prophetic Praise Liturgical Dance Ministry at New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD, and local dance studios. She has been fortunate to dance works by the late Fabian Barnes, Nai-Ni Chen, Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Chris Michael, Keith Thomas, Dion Wilson, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and performed with the Stephanie Powell Dance Ensemble, Vincent Thomas of VTDance along with Dance & Bmore under the direction of CJay Phillips. Aside from movement, curriculum writing has become a new passion. She has written for her current assignment in BCPS (Baltimore County Public Schools) and immensely enjoys researching, coordinating, and creating lessons/units that promote community and inclusion. In her spare time, you can find her dancing with her five-year-old daughter and watching movies with her husband on the weekends. Mrs. Hamilton is a free-lance performer, licensed ZUMBA Instructor, certified Xtreme Hip-Hop Instructor, liturgical dance minister, and educator and blessed to be able to share this gift with the world given to her by God.

Nalo Hamilton, PhD, MSN, APRN-BC is an associate professor with the UCLA School of Nursing. She has experience with curriculum development and the education of advanced practice registered nurses (APRN).  Dr. Hamilton also has experience in developing science education.  Her unique background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and nursing coupled with her clinical expertise gives her a unique perspective on education in the sciences and clinical development.

Dr. Nichole Taylor is a seasoned educator with years of experience working in early, elementary, and higher education.

Previously, she served as an administrator in higher education as a Director of Adult Education. Dr. Taylor has taught undergraduate and nontraditional students. Some of her courses taught are; critical reading, early literacy strategies, curriculum & instruction in primary reading, parent-child relations, and early childhood education, and many other educational courses.

She is an experienced educational program leader with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Dr. Taylor is skilled in early childhood development, elementary education, literacy, educational facilitator/presenter, educational training, curriculum design, adult education, and program management.

Her commitment is to continue supporting early literacy, non-traditional programs, continuing education, and creating opportunities for every individual to have equitable access to education. Dr. Taylor volunteers and serves as a board member of a local nonprofit organization in Huntsville, AL. She also enjoys mentoring young women and works with a mentoring program.

Dr. Taylor is a first-generation student, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Alabama A&M University; her Master's Degree in Education from Alabama A&M University; her Educational Specialist Degree from Alabama A&M University; and her Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Reading Literacy.

Her focus is helping the most at-risk and vulnerable children and is a driving factor of what she does.   Ms. Hardy is currently an Adjunct Professor at La Sierra University and a Vice Principal in the Moreno Valley Unified School District where she practices diversity and inclusion daily.   Ms. Hardy’s work does not stop there, she has volunteered to be education project manager for non-profits, sat on multicultural city council task forces, and is the former Chairperson of H3 Missions, a non-profit dedicated to saving people in impoverished nations dying from otherwise treatable medical conditions.

Dr. Reginald Garcon is the Associate Vice President and University Registrar at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). He has over 25 years of higher education experience and is very passionate about student success. In his spare time, he is the Past President for CAPACRAO (Chesapeake and Potomac Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers) and teaches line dancing for fun and teaches line dancing to the community.

Richard J. Lawrence is currently a popular adjunct professor in the Human Communication Department at California State University Fullerton and in the Humanities Department at El Camino College Compton Center where he teaches courses in public speaking, critical thinking/debate, interpersonal, and intercultural communication.

He has also recently become sought after as a public speaking consultant, bringing his relaxed and easy-going teaching methods to groups and individuals, helping them to overcome what is arguably people’s biggest fear: speaking in public. Before his work in higher education, Richard held various positions in the retail, telecommunication, and automotive sectors before returning to school to earn a BA in mass communication from California State University Dominguez Hills and an MA in communication management as well as completing an doctoral studies coursework in communication with an emphasis in rhetoric and culture from the USC Annenberg School for Communication in Los Angeles.

Rodney's academic credentials reflect his deep dedication to the field of education. He holds an Educational Specialist degree from Eastern Michigan University, a Master of Teaching degree from Trinity University in Washington, DC, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. His expertise has been honed over two decades of higher education experience, focusing on promoting student growth and development.

As an English professor at Wayne County Community College, Rodney is known for his ability to engage and empower young adult learners. He fosters a dynamic learning environment that extends far beyond the classroom, motivating students toward personal and professional growth. Rodney takes great pride in helping students unlock their potential and often says his greatest joy comes from "seeing the light come on” in the minds of those he teaches. His approach is grounded in servant leadership, always putting the needs of others first while equipping them with tools to succeed on their terms.

Rodney is a consultant and mentor, supporting students and educators in achieving their fullest potential. He also coaches young athletes, particularly teens and young adults, in basketball, guiding them not just in the sport, but in life skills that extend off the court.

A lover of horticulture and carpentry, he founded Legacy Landscaping and Professional Services, which blends his passion for nature and craftsmanship with his business acumen. With years of experience in social service and the education fields, she has been successful in helping children become global learners. Her prior work experience includes: serving as a Child Welfare Social Worker for the Department of Human Resources, Mentoring Program Coordinator, and Certified Elementary School Teacher. She currently works at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Roosemary was able to support students with her in-home and virtual tutoring services. Her rigorous tutoring program not only educates students in grade school but also reaches those at the college level. The tutoring program has been successful as she uses research-based practices and hands-on learning activities to activate students’ critical thinking skills. In addition, she helps parents and guardians interpret reading and math data reports for their children. Rather than just focusing on the deficiency students have, Roosemary also provides above-grade-level strategies for students to academically soar past their current grade level. Students’ academic performance and self-esteem have shown a significant growth increase with Roosemary’s tutoring program. She believes “no one student learns the same; differentiation is key for students to become global competitive scholars”. She hopes one day her tutoring program will reach students across the nation. Roosemary will always have a passion for tutoring students; she views students as an investment. Investing in our future leaders of the world.

Roosemary received her education at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University with a Bachelor's of Art in Social Work and a Master’s in Elementary Education(K-6). She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Supply Chain Management and Human Resources.

Dr. Shabnam Islam is an accomplished academic and exercise physiologist with over a decade of experience in promoting healthier campus communities through student-led exercise and nutrition interventions. As the Academic Director of Greener by Default, a non-profit organization, she leverages behavioral science strategies to empower institutions to provide inclusive, sustainable, and delicious plant-forward food options.

With a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy and a master’s in Kinesiology, Dr. Islam has championed evidence-based, cost-effective, and collaborative approaches to enhance health and inclusivity within academic institutions. Her current work focuses on transforming the food environment on campuses through simple yet impactful changes. With a passion for fostering wellness and community, Dr. Islam continues to advocate for strategies that benefit both individuals and the broader academic landscape.

Experienced Associate Professor with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Skilled in community agency engagement and collaboration, program development, curriculum development, public speaking, student engagement, strategic planning and effective team building. Strong program and project management professional with a Doctorate of Social Work focused in Social Work/Teaching as Practice from University of St. Thomas (2020).

Tamari Jenkins has worked as an educator for 29 years. She has mainly taught Spanish language and literature courses and is a tenured member of the faculty at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. More recently Tamari has transitioned into a leadership role in faculty and professional development and she currently serves as Chaffey’s Faculty Success Center Facilitator. Prior to her position at Chaffey, Tamari taught at other area community colleges in the Inland Empire such as Riverside Community College, San Bernardino Valley College, and in the private college sector at Claremont McKenna College and at the University of Redlands. She is a graduate of Pacific Union College where she received her B.A. degree in Spanish and she attended the University of California Riverside, where she received her M.A. degree in Spanish linguistics with an emphasis in dialectology.

Tamari’s students would say she has a gift for breaking down the mechanics of language but she is passionate about teaching culture, specifically Afrolatina culture, which has widely been diminished and in some cases erased from the history books of many Latin American countries. Tamari also loves to mentor her students who are serious about attaining language fluency and to advise them on study abroad opportunities and connect them with various resources to help them achieve their goals. In 2005, Tamari co-founded a networking organization called African American Linguists and she has been continuously active in efforts to create a sense of community for other African American educators and students who are highly underrepresented in her field. She has facilitated and presented at dozens of professional conferences on equity, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to the world language field and to higher-ed administration. She recently co-authored an article that was published in The Language Educator magazine entitled, “Increasing Black Representation in Languages: Lessons from the Past and Present.”

Outside of Spanish teaching, Tamari has a variety of other interests and endeavors. When it comes to health, she has a holistic approach and strives in the pursuit of balance between mind, body, and spirit. Since January of 2023, Tamari has done health and weight management coaching for a respected wellness program. She has helped about a dozen people in pursuit of their health and weight loss goals. Tamari and her husband Raymond have two children, ages 19 and 11. Their youngest child was adopted into their family as an infant and since then Tamari has served as an advocate for adoption and foster- care, with the specific goal of inspiring more Black families to adopt and help mitigate the

disproportionate number of Black children in foster care systems. Tamari loves travel, yoga, hiking, genealogical studies and all things related to Black familial history and identity around the world. She is deeply honored to be a Healthy Heart Nation Ambassador as she has the utmost respect for the leadership, mission, and vision behind this movement.

She is a member of The Gathering in Forestville, MD, where she has served for 23 years under the leadership of the Honorable Bishop Donald A. Wright, Pastor, and Lady Dr. Nakia Wright. Dr. Green is married to William Green Sr., and they have three beautiful children: Marquis (24), Mikayla (11), and William Jr. (9). Overall, to meet the desire of “living a purposeful life,” Dr. Tasheka L. Green endeavors to walk in the ways of a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31:10-31), to be in the center of God’s will, to influence change, and to be an example of Christ in the earth.

Tracey White is a high school mathematics teacher and has taught at Redlands High School for 16 years.

Tracey previously was a teacher's assistant at The Ohio State University while a graduate student and taught remedial math undergraduate courses. She also taught discussion sessions in the math department at the University of California Riverside for a year before being hired by Redlands Unified School District. Tracey received a B.S. in Math Education from Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL in 1996.
